MOODLEFIX

Moodle Solutions & MoodleFIX Support

We provide comprehensive LMS support, from installation and version upgrades to custom plugin development and troubleshooting, for both university and corporate systems. Comprehensive Moodle LMS support ranging from source-code-level development to the operation of large-scale university and enterprise infrastructures.

I

Moodle Installation

Deployment of turnkey, stable systems in an optimized environment.

Service: Deployment of turnkey Moodle LMS systems optimized for production use within the client’s infrastructure (on-premises or cloud-based environment).

Technical content: Precise installation of the latest recommended Moodle core version (typically the LTS – Long Term Support release). Installation and configuration of the required PHP and Apache modules and database versions. System-level configuration of cron processes and implementation of basic security settings.

II

Moodle Version Upgrade

Safe migration to the latest releases (e.g. Moodle v4.5 LTS or Moodle v5.x upgrades).

Service: Secure, data-loss-free migration from older Moodle releases (even starting from v3.x) to the recommended v4.5 release (typically the LTS – Long Term Support version) or to the latest, more feature-rich non-LTS v5.x versions with a shorter support cycle.

Technical content: Preparation and execution of multi-stage (multi-hop) upgrade plans, preferably first in an isolated test environment. Compatibility checks for third-party plugins and, where necessary, further development of incompatible plugins to make them compatible; migration of outdated database schemas; adaptation of themes/designs that break after the upgrade; and post-upgrade functional, security, and performance testing. Comprehensive backups, Git version control, and continuous documentation of the upgrade process ensure that any issues arising during the upgrade can be managed and that the upgrade can be completed securely without data loss, or, in the event of a serious obstacle, the original state can be restored.

III

Moodle System Migration / Relocation

Complete migration between servers or service providers without data loss.

Service: Migration of the entire e-learning framework, user data, courses, and files between servers or hosting providers with zero data loss, planned downtime notifications, and the shortest possible service interruption.

Technical content: Secure transfer of the Moodledata directory structure and MySQL/MariaDB database dumps using SSH and rsync. Modification of paths and database settings, redirection of DNS records, deployment of the new server, verification of proper operation on the new server, configuration of backups, and security checks.

IV

MoodleFIX Troubleshooting

Identification and resolution of critical PHP source code errors and database issues.

Service: Source-code-level identification and resolution of unexpected system-level errors, fatal PHP crashes (white screen), database issues, and performance bottlenecks.

Technical content: Server-side log analysis (Apache, PHP, MySQL logs). Debugging and troubleshooting in the Moodle API and custom-developed code, with patch or hotfix fixes applied under Git version control.

V

MoodleFIX Technical Support

Contract-based L1/L2 administrator, developer, and customer support availability.

Service: Contract-based, dedicated L1/L2/L3 engineering and administrative support for universities and enterprises, with guaranteed availability and response times (SLA).

Technical content: Day-to-day operational support, technical assistance, resolution of user-related technical issues, system-level security patching, and support with the management of courses, tests, and other settings.

Stable infrastructure for continuous operation

VI

Plugin Customization and Development

Repair and customization of existing plugins and blocks.

Service: Repair and modernization of existing outdated or faulty third-party plugins, modules, and blocks, including making them compatible with PHP 8.x.

Technical content: Modification and refactoring of plugin source code and replacement of deprecated Moodle API calls with current standards.

VII

Custom Plugin Development

Programming of new Moodle modules and functionalities tailored to specific requirements.

Service: Design and development of completely new Moodle modules, blocks, reports, and replacement plugins implementing custom business or educational logic.

Technical content: Object-oriented (OOP) PHP development in compliance with Moodle’s official development standards (Moodle Coding Style). Secure database handling through the Moodle DB API, implementation of custom event handlers (Events/Hooks), and task schedulers (Scheduled Tasks).

VIII

LDAP & MSAD Integration

Setup and configuration of centralized Single Sign-On (SSO), LDAP, and MSAD user authentication.

Service: Integration of the Moodle platform with the institution’s or company’s central directory service to ensure secure and automated user management.

Technical content: Implementation of Active Directory (MSAD) or OpenLDAP connections via SSL/TLS (LDAPS). Automatic field mapping of user attributes (name, email, department), automated cohort and course enrollment based on organizational units, and support for Single Sign-On (SSO) protocols.

IX

Theme Update & Branding Customization

Custom institutional/corporate appearance, UI/UX fine-tuning, and theme customization.

Service: Customization of Moodle’s default appearance based on the institution’s or company’s official brand identity, with a focus on modern UI/UX principles.

Technical content: Fine-tuning and modification of existing themes (e.g. Boost) using custom SCSS/CSS overrides. Development of template files (Mustache templates), responsive layouts, and custom navigation elements to ensure perfect display across different digital devices (mobile, tablet, desktop).

X

System Optimization

Improving Moodle speed and scalability by eliminating slowdowns and optimizing system components.

Service: Improving Moodle response times and page loading speed through fine-tuning of software and caching layers.

Technical content: Configuration of Moodle Universal Cache (MUC). Integration of high-performance Memcached or Redis memory-based caching to minimize database and session load. Optimization of JavaScript and CSS asset compression and server-side cache settings.

Moodle problem? We’ll fix it. Guaranteed!

XI

System Scalability / High Availability (HA)

Design and configuration of high-availability architectures for high-traffic environments.

Service: Design and implementation of multi-server Moodle architectures capable of serving large numbers of concurrent users without interruption.
